 On Tumblr, there was a list of "Salty Asks" going around and I have shamelessly taken it from here and will be answering them for The Untamed because that's my main fandom right now. 

 

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
    

Out of all the OTP's in this fandom, I can see all of them. I “just don't get” ships like Jiang Chang/Lan Jingyi but that isn't anyone's OTP, at least I've never meant anyone who has that as their OTP so I don't think it counts?

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
    

Jiang Chang/Wei Wuixian for...obvious reasons. Like, I get why a lot of people ship it but for me they are a true “sibling ship” in the most platonic way possible.

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
    

Not in this fandom

4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
    

NoTP – Jin Ling/Lan Shizui. I get it but I don't like it and if there's a fic with it, it's pretty up in the air on if I'll just sigh and continue or if it'll take me out of the fic entirely. Luckily, the ship I DO have for Shizui is with Jingyi and those are his two biggest ships so…

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
    

Not in this fandom lol

 

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
    

Nah – if I hate a ship, there's pretty much no getting me to like it lol. I'm a fandom old that way.

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
    

I don't think so? I like what I like and don't like what I don't. I'm pretty simple that way :D

8. Have you received anon hate? What about?
    

Again, not in this fandom, but as usual Shipping Is Serious Business

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
    

Su She. Man, fuck that guy. He's such a little toadie and it makes me want to drop him at Lan Zhan's feet and tell him he hit on Wei Ying just to see him get the shit kicked out of him. Just...I feel like he's the kind of asshole who says, when you criticize an aspect of society, "oh how interesting and yet you participate in society. I am very smart." INSERT MEME HERE like Jin Guangyao is over here DOING THE WORK of changing things (and killing a bunch of people, but ya know, we'll ignore that lol) and Su She over here just mooching and whining about shit like “wah wah, Lan Wangji is cooler than me and is respected as a great cultivator and I'm not! Boo hoo!!” Like, yeah, asshole he IS respected more than you – wanna know why?? CAUSE HE DOES THE WORK!! 

He fought in the front lines during the Sunshot Campaign, he helped rebuild his sect when it was burned down (instead of ditching it to create a copycat sect), he helped wherever he was needed (instead of just doing whatever Jin Guangyao wanted him to do, apparently?), he didn't try to string up an innocent girl just because the bad guys wanted to attract a monster OR shoot someone in the shoulder when said monster WOKE UP PISSED and that guy was LEADING AN EVACUATION (yeah, remember that mess in the cave?? He was the guy who wanted to hand over MianMian and shot Wei Ying). Like, Su She over here really trying to act like he and MENG YAO are on the same level when MY/JGY is the one doing all the work and heavy lifting. Just...UGH FUCK THAT GUY.

Jin Zixan. The Jin cousin who didn't do shit during the Sunshot Campaign but afterwards really got off killing a bunch of Wen refugees and was Super Into Genocide. Got easily manipulated into ambushing Wen Ning and Wei Ying and led to the direct death of his cousin, the actual facts Sect Heir and new father.

Jin Guangshan. Greedy asshole. Womanizer. Rapist. At least Wen Rohan was interesting and didn't have any obvious rapes to his name.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?
     

Honestly, none. The story is actually pretty short considering it was a web novel.

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
     

In this fandom, for once, no.

12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
     

Nope – since it's such a short novel and a very compact series (Live action and animation) as a fandom there's not really any unpopular arcs, you know? They all build into each other.

13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
     

Some general unpopular opinions I have:

Madam Yu loved all three of her children and was abusive to all of them. These two things can exist together. Jiang Fengmian was just as abusive to his kids and their marriage was a hot mess on both sides – that whole family would have been a PRIME candidate for family counseling in the modern world.

Lan Huan and Lan Zhan are products of rape.

Nie Huaisang can fight and cultivate, but he's not as good as our main cast who are ACTUAL GOD TIER – he could totally kick Su She's ass tho.

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
     

There's a lot of us who really don't appreciate just how fucked up mainland China's government is, especially re: LGBT rights and how authoritarian the government is.

15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
     

The live action adapts the story line better than the animation, as much as I love both of them.

16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
     

In the animation, when Wei Ying goes full Yiling Laozu he gets crows or ravens, whichever. Live Action WWX deserved those black birds. Give all versions of WWX his familiars!

17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
     

Fanfiction. Just...so much fanfiction

18. Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?
     

Nah.

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
     

“let's make the gay ship straight!” No. Let's not. Do not do the thing.

20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
     

Ironically, Wangxian – yes, they're kinky and have sex everyday but they are also pure love. Also, like...they’ve only had sex with each other after they were both FINALLY on the same page about being madly and stupidly in love with each other. They’re each other’s first kisses and first times. AND THEN THEY GET MARRIED. (arguably, they got married and then had their first time.) 

21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?
     

Nice. Especially if you make it coherent.

22. Popular character you hate?
     

I wouldn't say I hate them...but I'm really not all that fond of the Yi City group? Like, in comparison to our main characters.

23. Unpopular character you love?
     

Most of the unpopular characters I either hate also or don't like so...none lol

24. Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not?
     

HELL YES. Watch The Untamed. Watch Mo Dao Zu Shi (the animation). Find the manhua and read it. Find a translation and read the novel – tho please do remember that the most popular fan translation, Exiled Rebels Scanlations, translates some things rather oddly especially in regards to the smut chapters.

It's got fantasy, necromancy, found families, sibling feels, GAY, magic, a good mystery, and it's just an all around great supernatural love story. A GAY SUPERNATURAL LOVE STORY.

25. How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?
     

No, I like where and how the end is.

26. Most shippable character?
     

Nie Huaisang for me.

27. Least shippable character?
     

Sue She and Wen Chao.
